Stuart N. Lake (1889-1964) already had one of his stories made into a film by 1928 when he met with Wyatt Earp with the intention of publishing his biography. Historians later debunked much of his account, but the novel still became a best-seller and two films based on it were released in 1934 and 1939.
Director John Ford based his film partially on Frontier Marshal (1939) and a re-written story by Stuart titled My Darling Clementine (1946).
