Biography

BIO

Akitake Kōno (河野秋武) was born in Shimabara, Nagasaki, Japan, in 1911.   His father was a civil servant.

Kōno began his career on the stage and appeared in his first film at the age of 32, in 1943, for Toho.   He joined the director Akira Kurosawa’s stock company and went on to appear in over 40 motion pictures.   His last film was released in 1970.

He married the actress Takako Misaki.

Kōno died from complications due to a gastric ulcer in 1978.   He was 66 years old.
