Biography

BIO

Beryl Mercer was born in Seville, Spain, in 1882.

A stage actress, Mercer made her Broadway debut in 1906, at the age of 24.   She went on to appear in 19 Broadway productions through the end of the 1920s.

Mercer made her film debut for George Kleine Productions in 1916, at the age of 34.   However, like many other stage actors, she did not move to Hollywood until 1930, the advent of “talkies”, and after the Great Depression put many of the lights out on Broadway.

Mercer appeared in more than 50 feature films.   Her last film appearance was in 1939.

Mercer’s first husband was Maitland Paisley whom she married in 1896.   They had one child.   Her second husband was the actor Holmes Herbert.

Mercer died from complications following surgery in Santa Monica, California, in 1939.   She was 56 years old.
