Biography

BIO

Edward Everett Horton was born in New York City in 1886.   He attended both New York University and Columbia University.

Horton started his stage career in 1906, singing and dancing in vaudeville.   He made his Broadway debut in 1910, at the age of 24.   He appeared in two more Broadway productions in 1912 and 1951.

In 1919, he moved to Los Angeles and started getting roles in Hollywood films.   His first starring role was in 1922 for Vitagraph.   An accomplished singer, Horton also introduced several standards on Broadway and in film.

A popular character actor in the 1930s, Horton appeared in more than 120 feature films.   His last picture was released in 1971.

In the late 1940’s, Horton started doing television work.   Beginning in 1959, he narrated the "Fractured Fairy Tales" segment of the Rocky & Bullwinkle cartoon show (1959-1961).   In 1965, he played Roaring Chicken in the sitcom F Troop.

Edward Everett Horton died of cancer at age 84 in Los Angeles, California in 1970.
