Biography

BIO

Isabel Jewell was born in Shoshoni, Wyoming, in 1907.    Her father was a doctor and cattle rancher.   A diminutive actress, she only reached the height of 4’ 11”.

Jewell made her Broadway debut in 1932, at the age of 25.   That same year, she signed with Warner Bros. and played a bit part in her first feature film.   She only returned to Broadway once more in 1942.

Jewell went on to appear as a supporting actress in over 65 motion pictures through 1972.   She could be also seen in various television guest roles during the 1950s and 1960s.

She was married to the director/screenwriter Owen Crump (1903-1998) in 1936.   The couple later divorced.   Her second marriage, to the actor Paul Marion (1915-2011), lasted from 1941 to 1943 before they too divorced.

She died in Los Angeles, in 1972, at the age of 64.
