John Vernon (1976)

Biography

BIO

John Vernon was born Adolphus Raymondus Vernon Agopsowicz in Zehner, Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1932.   His parents were Armenian immigrants and his father worked as a grocer.

Vernon was educated in the fine arts in college and was accepted into the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Known for a mellifluous line delivery, he appeared in only one Broadway play, in 1965, and performed for one summer season for the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-Upon-Avon in 1974.

He made his film debut in 1956, at the age of 24, for Holiday Film Productions.   Vernon went on to appear in over 200 television and film roles through 2005.

He was married for a period to Nancy West and the couple raised 3 children, all of whom became involved in the entertainment industry: Kate Vernon (born 1961) - actress; Nan Vernon (born 1967) - singer/actress; and Chris Vernon - actor.

Vernon died in 2005 after heart surgery, in Los Angeles, at the age of 72.
