Biography

BIO

Michael Whalen was born Joseph Kenneth Shovlin in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, in 1902.

Whalen began his career as a department store clerk before becoming an actor in a regional theatre.   He made his film debut for Twentieth Century Fox in 1935 at the age of 33.

In 1943, Whalen left Hollywood for Broadway and appeared in the hit play Ten Little Indians (1944-1945).   After touring nationally with the show, he returned to Hollywood in 1947.

Beginning in the early 1950s, Whalen appeared primarily as a guest actor on television.

Whalen appeared in 65 feature films through 1962.

He died in Los Angeles, California, in 1974, at the age of 71.
