FILM COMMENTS

Behind the film, there was the beginning of a changing of the guard at MGM.   Irving Thalberg, the boy wonder producer, had a heart attack the previous year, and Louis B. Mayer put the young David O. Selznick in charge of production.   It was directed by George Cukor, a rising force himself, who was being mentored by Selznick.
