Biography

BIO

A.E. Anson was born Albert Edward Anson in London, England, in 1879.   His father was the stage actor George W. Anson (1847-1920).

Anson made his West End stage debut in 1895, at the age of 16.   He made his Broadway debut as part of the cast of the great Shakespearean Richard Mansfield’s production of Julius Caesar (1902-1903).   Anson continued to perform in both London and New York until 1909 when he relocated stateside permanently.

A Broadway stalwart, he appeared in 32 productions through 1930 and staged two others.

He only made two films, both in 1931, after which his health began to decline.

Anson was married to the stage and film actress Deidre Doyle as well as stage actress Mary Malleson.

Anson died in Monrovia, California, in 1936, at the age of 56.
