Arrowsmith, 1925

Already famous for his blockbuster seventh novel Main Street (1920), Sinclair Lewis's ninth novel Arrowsmith (1925) was awarded the 1926 Pulitzer Prize.   He declined the award.

Playwright and screenwriter Sidney Howard, also a Pulitzer Prize winner, adapted Lewis's novel to the screen.   He received his first Academy Award nomination for Arrowsmith (1931).
