Biography

BIO

Alec B. Francis was born Alec Budd Francis in London, England, in 1867.

Francis began his career serving with the British Royal Artillery in India and was part of the medical corps during the Spanish-American War.

He tried farming in Iowa, but finally moved to Hollywood and appeared in his first silent short-reel for Vitagraph, in 1911, at the age of 43.   A solid supporting actor, Francis acted in more than 85 short-reels through 1914.

He went on to appear in more than 215 silent features through 1928 and easily transitioned to sound with more than 25 motion pictures through 1934.

Francis was married to Lucy Bowers (1862-1953) until his death after surgery in Hollywood, in 1934, at the age of 66.
