Biography

BIO

Claude King was born Claude Ewart King in Northampton, Northamptonshire, England, in 1875.

King began his stage career in England as early as 1903 at the age of 28.   He made his Broadway debut in a touring show in 1906.

He returned to New York City after the end of World War I and appeared in 10 productions through 1925.

King made his first English silent short-reel for Britannia Films in 1912, but did not return to the medium until he was living in New York and joined a feature for Famous Players-Lasky in 1920.

King appeared in more than 20 silent film features before transitioning to sound in 1929.

He helped co-found the Screen Actor’s Guild in 1933.

King went on to appear in more than 105 sound features through 1941.

He married the English stage actress Violet Luddington followed by the English stage and film actress Evelyn Hall.

He died in Los Angeles, in 1941, at the age of 66.
