Biography
BIO
Bert Roach was born Egbert Roach in Washington, D.C. in 1891.
A prolific character actor and singer, he made his Broadway debut in 1911 at the age of 20.
After touring with various stock companies, Roach made his film debut in 1914 for Universal Film Manufacturing. He began to work steadily as a film actor for L-KO beginning in 1916. Over the next four decades he appeared in more than 350 films.
Roach specialized in silent short-reels and did not begin appearing in silent features until the mid-1920s.
His last film was released in 1951 after which he retired from the business - at the age of 60.
Roach was married to Gladys Johnson. He died in Los Angeles in 1971 at the age of 80.
