Biography

BIO

Arthur Hoyt was born Georgetown, Colorado, in 1874.   His younger brother was the writer/director Harry O. Hoyt (1885-1961).

He made his Broadway debut in 1902 at the age of 28 and appeared in 5 productions through 1911.

Hoyt made his silent film debut in 1914, at the age of 40, in a short-reel for Thanhouser Film.   He signed on with Universal Film Manufacturing in 1916 and briefly starred in several features in 1917 as well and directed two motion pictures for Triangle Film in 1918 before returning to supporting roles.

Although he was able to transition to “talkies” in the 1930s, many of his roles were uncredited.

Hoyt appeared in more than 270 feature films through 1947.

He died in Los Angeles, in 1953, at the age of 78.
