Samuel Hopkins Adams began his career in 1891 as an investigative reporter for the New York Sun.   While he specialized in public health issues, he also wrote fiction.   Night Bus first appeared in the August 1933 issue of Cosmopolitan magazine.

Robert Riskin won an Academy Award for his screenplay adaptation.

Both Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert were unenthusiastic about being attached to a film they thought was inferior.   Colbert even planned to skip the Academy Award ceremony and had to be pulled off an outbound train at the last minute to accept her Oscar for Actress.
