Christopher Walken was born Ronald Walken in New York City, in 1943. His father was a baker. He and his brothers, Ken Walken and Glenn Walken (1945- ), all began their entertainment careers as child actors.
Walken made his Broadway debut in 1958, at the age of 15, and has appeared in 13 productions through 2010. Among several stage awards, Walken has twice been nominated for a Tony Award for James Joyce’s The Dead (2000) and A Behanding in Spokane (2010). He also starred in a revival of Sweet Bird of Youth (1975-1976).
Walken first began working in television in 1953 and appeared in several series through the mid-1960s before making his film debut, in 1969, in a film directed by Robert Frank.
He received an Academy Award for Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in The Deer Hunter (1978) and was nominated for his second Supporting Actor Oscar for Catch Me If You Can (2002). To date, he has appeared in more than 90 feature films.
Walken married the actress/casting director Georgianne Walken (1944- ) in 1969.
