Biography

BIO

Franklin Dyall was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, England in 1870.

He was performing in regional theatre by 1894 at the age of 24.   By 1914, Dyall was performing in the London's West End and was frequently seen there through 1943.

He made his silent film debut, at the age of 46, in a dramatic short-reel for London-Diploma in 1916.  He largely stayed away from cinema until the advent of sound technology and then appeared in 20 feature films between 1929 and 1948.

Dyall married to Mary Phyllis Logan in 1907 and the couple raised one child before dissolving their union.   Their son was the actor Valentine Dyall (1908-1985).

He was re-married to the actress Mary Merrall (1890-1973) in 1929.

Dyall died in Worthing, Sussex, England, in 1950, at the age of 80.
