The Private Life of Henry VIII

story by Lajos Biró (1880-1948)

Lajos Biró had worked as a journalist in Budapest, Hungary before fleeing to Vienna, Austria in advance of the Russian Revolution of 1917.   There, he began writing screeplays, including a story produced by the Hungarian-born director Alexander Korda in 1924.

Biró left that same year to write for Hollywood. There, one of his first screenplays was used by director Ernst Lubitsch for one of his earliest U.S. films.   Biró received an Academy Award nomination for penning the 1928 classic The Last Command before reuniting with Korda in London in 1932.   Between 1932 and 1948, 12 of his screenplays were directed by Alexander Korda.
