BIO
Luis Alberni was born Barcelona, Spain, in 1886, and studied drama at the University of Madrid.
He emigrated to the U.S. after Spain’s entrance into World War I and sought out stage roles in New York City. He made his Broadway debut in 1915, at the age of 29, and performed in 15 Broadway productions through 1928.
Alberni appeared in his first silent feature film in 1920 for RealArt Pictures. After making 8 features during the 1920s, Alberni headed for Hollywood in 1929 at the beginning of the Great Depression when stage roles became scarce in New York City.
He signed with Paramount Pictures in 1930, specialized as an ethnic character actor, and made a busy career appearing in more than 130 features. His last film was a minor role in The Ten Commandments (1956).
He married Charlotte Hall in 1919 and the couple raised two children. They divorced in 1940. His second wife was Wanda Kay Wilson.
Alberni died of a heart attack in Los Angeles, California, in 1962, at the age of 76.
