Marianne Jean-Baptiste was born in London, England in 1967.

After studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, she began performing onstage before making her British film debut in 1991 at the age of 24.

Jean-Baptiste received an Academy Award nomination for Actress in a Supporting Role for her second film Secrets & Lies (1996).

She has appeared in more than 25 feature films.

Jean-Baptiste married the ballet artist Evan Williams in 1997 and the couple have two children.
