Biography

BIO

Mary Nash was born Mary Ryan in Troy, New York, in 1884.   Her father, a lawyer, died when she was young.   Her step-father was a vaudeville booking agent.   She studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.

Nash made her Broadway debut in 1905, at the age of 21.   She went on to appear in another 26 Broadway productions through 1932, including a starring role in The Command to Love (1927-1928).

She appeared in her first film for Life Photo Film in 1915, at the age of 31.   Nash did not return to motion pictures until she signed with Universal Pictures in 1934.

She appeared in 23 pictures during the sound era.   Her last film was released in 1946.

Nash married the actor José Ruben in 1918.   They were later divorced.

Her sister was the stage actress Florence Nash.

Nash died in Los Angeles, in 1976, at the age of 92.
