Phyllis Logan was born Phyllis Margaret Logan in Paisley, Scotland, in 1956.
After graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Logan joined the Dundee Repertory Theatre before acting on the Edinburgh stage.
She made her television debut in a starring role for a Canadian film in 1977 at the age of 21. Logan burst onto the British film scene in 1984 after receiving a BAFTA Award nomination for Actress for her leading role in Another Time, Another Place (1983) and winning the BAFTA Award for Most Promising Newcomer to Film.
Although most of her work has been in British television, she has appeared in more than 15 feature films.
Logan married the actor Kevin McNally (b. 1956) in 1994 and the couple raised one son.
