Biography

BIO

Raymond Walburn was born Plymouth, Indiana, in 1887.   After graduating high school, he moved to Oakland, California with his actress mother and began appearing on stage in a regional stock company.

Walburn made his Broadway debut in 1914, at the age of 27, before serving in the U.S. Army in France during World War I.

He returned to the Broadway stage in 1922 and appeared in 23 productions through 1965.

Walburn’s first featured role on screen was in 1916, at the age of 29, for Vitagraph, but he did not return to movie roles until 1929 and the advent of talking pictures.   He signed on with Paramount and appeared in more than 90 feature films through 1955.

Walburn was married to Gertrude Steinman until her death in 1953. In 1955, he was remarried to Jane Davis.

He died in New York City, in 1969, at the age of 81.
