Biography

BIO

Rutanya Alda, born Rutanya Skrastina in Riga, Latvia, in 1942, spent her first years in a displaced persons camp after the end of World War II.   Her mother was a businesswoman and her father a poet.

Alda made her film debut in 1968, at the age of 26, in a film by Brian De Palma.   It was also one of Robert De Niro’s first films.   She has appeared in more than 50 features.

Alda married the actor Richard Bright (1937-2006) in 1977.   The couple raised one child.   Her husband was tragically killed when hit by a tour bus in New York City.
