Harrison Ford was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1942. His father was a former actor turned advertising executive and his mother a former radio actress. His younger brother is the actor/photographer Terence Ford (1945- ).
Ford turned to drama in college as a way to overcome his shyness. In 1964, after performing in summer stock in Wisconsin, he left school and headed for Hollywood.
He made his feature film debut for Columbia Pictures in 1965, at the age of 21, and began appearing in television guest roles throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s. Otherwise, Ford supported himself as a skilled carpenter and cabinet maker.
He became an international star with his performance in the sci-fi blockbuster Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) and cemented his reputation as one of the world’s most popular actors with his role as “Indy” Jones in the smash hit Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). Both films spawned numerous, immensely successful sequels.
He has appeared in more than 50 feature films.
Ford is also an avid pilot.
He has been married three times:
